I have been in the fish hatchery business for 15 years and used silica air stones all the time. I have probably gone through over 3,000 air stones. A few years ago we tried the Colorite aeration tubing and what a difference!! Not only did we save a lot of money in costly air stone replacement and cleaning, but we greatly increased the production capacity of our tanks and improved our water quality. We have used Colorite aeration tubing in several different applications and found it to be much more efficient in oxygen transfer. Aeration devices using Aero Tube, tubing supplied by Colorite, is being used at Gadsden State College to raise and harvest fresh water shrimp. “ We have a considerable amount of data to substantiate the following attributes of an aeration device, using the tubing supplied by Colorite, versus the more traditional prop or propeller type of aerators. The attributes are as follows: 1) There is no sedement build up, as typically seen with the propeller type of device. The significance of not having this occur is a reduction of maintenance cleanup or the inoperability of the pond over time, 2) The tubing device provides an even flow of water , in a ‘figure 8’ motion, thus allowing for superior circulation and maintaining of a consistent level of dissolved oxygen throughout the entire pond, 3) The energy effieiciency is superior to the traditional propeller type of devices. A 1 horse power blower can circulate and aerate a .25 acre pond providing an 1100 – 1500 lb shrimp harvest per pond.”
